Planting Trees

You will be provided with a sapling to plant that could be one of the following cultivars. Unless you’re bringing your own tree to plant, please take the sapling that has been provided:

Silver Birch; Dogwood; Hawthorn; Rowan; Elder

Hazel; Wild Cherry; Crab Apple; Blackthorn; Dog Rose

You will need to bring:

  • Your own tools – spade and fork
  • 2 x bags of Mulch – to create a mulch volcano around your tree
  • A large piece of cardboard to put on the ground round your tree to help retain moisture
  • A litre of water to water your tree after planting
  • Can optionally bring and plant flowers around your tree – nitrogen and phosphorus fixing flowers

You will need to:

  1. Find the zone and then numbered stick in the ground that has been assigned to you
  2. Remove the stick and plant your tree as indicated in this video
  3. Fill in the form to identify the location of your tree so that we can create a site map of its location, dedication and the species planted
  4. Return the numbered stick to operations so that it can be checked off by the volunteer supervisor
