Bereavement Support

The death of someone we love is a devastating experience. We are faced with the painful task of coping with all that bereavement brings and with the challenge of finding a new sense of life and purpose. All of this takes time which is often longer than we think. Meeting with others who are also grieving can help support this process. To this end, St John’s offers a variety of events which you might find helpful.

Bereavement Coffee Mornings

These are held once a month in the church from 10:00am to 11.30am. They provide the opportunity to meet and share in an informal setting with others who have been bereaved. They also give space to reflect and to light a candle if you would like to. The next coffee morning is 26th February 2026.

The Bereavement Journey

The Bereavement Journey is for anyone who has been bereaved at any time and in any way. By means of a series of films and discussion groups, it gently guides bereaved people through the most common aspects of grief, enabling them to process the implications for themselves and discern next steps. The Bereavement Journey is suitable for people of any faith or none, offering six sessions with an optional seventh session on faith questions in bereavement from a Christian perspective.

The course is held in the Easter Centre.

The next course is being held on Monday Mornings  9:30am – 11:30am from 5th October 2026. One week break during half term.
