Bereavement Support

Bereavement Support

The death of someone we love is a devastating experience. We are faced with the painful task of coping with all that bereavement brings and with the challenge of finding a new sense of life and purpose. All of this takes time which is often longer than we think. Meeting with others who are also grieving can help support this process. To this end, St John’s offers a variety of events which you might find helpful.

Bereavement Coffee mornings

These are held once a month in the Easter Centre from 10am to 11.30am. They provide the opportunity to meet and share in an informal setting with others who have been bereaved. They also give space to reflect and to light a candle if you would like to.

Spring Term 2023

Thursday 16th March

Summer Term 2023

Thursday April 13th

Thursday May 11th with an optional short walk leaving the church carpark at 9.30am and returning before 11am to join those already in the Easter Centre.

Thursday June 8th

Thurday July 6th with optional short walk (see above for details).

The Bereavement Journey

The Bereavement Journey is for anyone who has been bereaved at any time and in any way. By means of a series of films and discussion groups, it gently guides bereaved people through the most common aspects of grief, enabling them to process the implications for themselves and discern next steps. The Bereavement Journey is suitable for people of any faith or none, offering six sessions with an optional seventh session on faith questions in bereavement from a Christian perspective.

The course is held in the Easter Centre.

Autumn Term 2023

The next course will be held September – October 2023.

Details to follow.

Memorial Services

The church holds two memorial services a year, one in the summer and a Blue Christmas service at the beginning of December. All are welcome.

The next Memorial Service is being held on Sunday 11th June at 2.30pm followed by tea and cake in the Easter Centre.
