Bereavement Support
The death of someone we love is a devastating experience. We are faced with the painful task of coping with all that bereavement brings and with the challenge of finding a new sense of life and purpose. All of this takes time which is often longer than we think. Meeting with others who are also grieving can help support this process. To this end, St John’s offers a variety of events which you might find helpful.
Bereavement Coffee mornings
These are held once a month in the Easter Centre from 10am to 11.30am. They provide the opportunity to meet and share in an informal setting with others who have been bereaved. They also give space to reflect and to light a candle if you would like to.
Spring Term 2023

The Bereavement Journey
The Bereavement Journey is for anyone who has been bereaved at any time and in any way. By means of a series of films and discussion groups, it gently guides bereaved people through the most common aspects of grief, enabling them to process the implications for themselves and discern next steps. The Bereavement Journey is suitable for people of any faith or none, offering five sessions with an optional sixth session on faith questions in bereavement from a Christian perspective.
The course is held in the Easter Centre.
Spring Term 2023
The next course is being held on Tuesday evenings from 7.30pm – 9.30pm from 21st February – 28th March 2023

Memorial Services
The church holds two memorial services a year, one in the summer and a Blue Christmas service at the beginning of December.
The next memorial service is the Blue Christmas service in church on 4th December 2022 at 2.30pm. This is a gentle service of remembrance and hope. There will be the opportunity to light a candle during the service and also to hang a decoration on the Tree of Hope in the churchyard afterwards in memory of loved ones. All are welcome.
