The death of someone we love is a devastating experience. We are faced with the painful task of coping with all that bereavement brings and with the challenge of finding a new sense of life and purpose. All of this takes time which is often longer than we think. Meeting with others who are also grieving can help support this process. To this end, St Johns offers a variety of events which you might find helpful.
Bereavement Coffee mornings
These are held once a month in the Easter Centre from 10am to 11.30am. They give the opportunity to meet and share with others who have been bereaved in an informal setting. They also give you some space to reflect and to light a candle if you would like to.
Thurs 11th November 10 – 11.30am Easter Centre
No coffee morning but an invitation to attend the Blue Christmas Service in church on Sunday 5th December 2.30pm
Thurs 20th January 10 – 11.30am Easter Centre
Thurs 17th February 10 -11.30 Easter Centre (with additional activities)
The Bereavement Journey
The Bereavement Journey is for anyone who has been bereaved at any time and in any way. By means of a series of films and discussion groups, it gently guides bereaved people through the most common aspects of grief, enabling them to process the implications for themselves and discern next steps. The Bereavement Journey is suitable for people of any faith or none, offering five sessions with an optional sixth session on faith questions in bereavement from a Christian perspective.
The course is held in the Easter Centre.
Thursday mornings 10.00am – 12.00pm February 24th – March 31st 2022
The church holds two memorial services a year, one in the summer and a Blue Christmas service at the beginning of December.
Our next memorial service is being held on Sunday 5th December 2021 at 2.30pm in the church.
