The Besom
The Besom is one of a number of charities that St John’s supports.
About The Besom
The Besom is an organisation that focuses on ensuring those who have something to give are able to focus their giving in the right places.
By giving time, things, and money through The Besom, we as a church are able to support those in need in our local area.
Giving Time
You can give your time through The Besom as an individual or as a group. The Besom is set up to make it easy for people to give time in whatever way is best for them.
This could mean sorting donations of food, clothing or bedding. It could mean making deliveries to key ministries such as homeless centres or charity shops. It could also mean making and distribution Christmas hampers, or providing administrative office support.
There are lots of ways you can give your time. Find more options on The Besom website.

Giving things
When you give things through The Besom they go to support vulnerable people. This includes those who have been re-housed after being homeless or having escaped domestic violence, refugees, and those in extreme poverty.
There are lots of things you can give, including clothing, non-perishable food, linens, crockery, towels, electrical items, kitchen equipment, furniture, and anything else that a person or family might need to start up in a new home.
If you would like to give, please call 01784 470 387 or email thebesom@btinternet.com.
Giving Money
The Besom operates on a prayer-based foundation. When money is donated there are two ways it will be used.
Firstly, to maintain The Besom’s day to day operations such as rent, van running costs, utilities and postage.
Secondly, to invest in grassroots projects overseas and across the UK. All of these projects are long term and aim to permanently improve the quality of life for the community. Recent projects including providing housing for abandoned street children in Zambia and equipping a laundry to help homeless families in central London.
