Contemporary Worship at St John’s

‘Contemporary worship’ is the sung and musical worship provided at the 10:30am and 6:00pm services and at many other events. Our aim and desire in leading worship at these services is to bring people into the presence of Christ, led by the Holy Spirit, and help them to connect with Him, express their love for Him and receive and celebrate His love for us, to the glory of God the Father. We want to create a safe space for people to receive healing and restoration and worship God in spirit and in truth.
Our contemporary worship typically involves a band and features ‘modern’ songs from the last 40 years or so. Nevertheless it reflects a range of musical styles and traditions. We seek to embrace and embed the core themes and teaching in each service in the songs we sing. The first 10.30am service each month is usually an ‘all age’ service where we involve some younger musicians and singers, and a student band leads the worship once a month in term-time.
Our team
There are about 40 people who sing and play in our worship teams, usually once or twice a month, led by a team of ten worship leaders.
We are hugely blessed by the contribution of young people and students to our worship. Our intern is actively involved in leading and supporting our worship ministry.
