February 2021 Eco Act

February 2021 Eco Act – Eco Church Award update

In February we want to take a moment to reflect on our first formal success as a church, having submitted our application for an EcoChurch Bronze Award. While our focus is really on action, not awards, the awards do help ensure we address specific issues; provide a message to the world that we care by joining with the hundreds of other churches in the scheme; and remind us we have much to do (we have only covered 3/5 categories for Silver).

At the same time, we are starting to focus on some major strategic matters such as meeting the Net Zero Carbon target – something which will require some radical changes.

For your Eco Act this month consider:

1) Are you taking steps on a personal level – did you sign up to the Creation Care program http://www.creationcare.org.uk , and is it making a difference in your life?

2) Could you join the EcoChurch team to help us get specific focus on an area – maybe in practical matters such as the environmental impact of our buildings, or more political areas such as in global engagement on environmental issues, or simply praying for our world? You don’t need to spend time on committees, there is work you can do with your voice, with your arms and legs, or on your knees! Contact us on stjohnseghamecochurch@gmail.com
