March 2021 Eco Act

March 2021 Eco Act – Recycling

The Eco Act for March is focused on Recycling.

This can be bewildering at times, even for those who want to do the right thing.

The key message is to check if something can be recycled BEFORE putting it in your recycling bin, because if too much non-recyclable waste is mixed in then that could result in the whole truckload being rejected.

There are some helpful resources online that can help with figuring out what can be recycled:

  • Traidcraft “Can I Recycle This?” article:  https://www.traidcraftshop.co.uk/blogpost/can-i-recycle-this-your-guide-to-recycling-and-recycling-codes-1055-1055-1055-1055.html/
  • Surrey Environment Partnership “What to do with an item” tool: https://www.surreyep.org.uk/what-to-do-with-an-item/
  • And here on our eco church website we have a page that says where you can recycle certain items around Egham: https://stjohnsegham.com/eco-church-2/resources-for-sustainable-living-in-and-around-egham/where-to-recycle-things-around-egham/ E.g. Tetra Pak cartons can be recycled at Lyne recycling centre, and bags that say “Recycle with bags at larger stores” can be taken to a supermarket and put in their dedicated bag recycling bin.

Hopefully these resources will make you a Smart Recycler!

In addition as we try to understand our current Carbon Footprint as the first step on our journey to Net Zero, we want to urge to take just a few moments to complete the Travelling to Church Survey:
