Most of our funds come from regular giving. On top, we run fundraising events for specific purposes, such as for one of our mission partners and for the building costs of the Easter Centre. We also have an annual Lent project that is for one of our mission partners or another good cause.

In addition to raising funds, our events build fellowship with each other and increase our connection with the community. And many say they are enjoyable.

Fundraising for the Easter Centre building costs

Phil Darby is pleased to let you know that the outstanding amount required to fully repay the building costs of the Easter Centre as of September 30th is

£522,373.

Included in this month’s fundraising figure is £300 from sales of vinyl, cds and dvds, £50.65 from recycling old mobile phones and stamps, £15 for a church history book and £180.50 from the Good as New stall at the recent Eco Fayre. Some office furniture, a Victorian school desk and chair, a child’s chair and some unused ink cartridges came to a further £103.80. This all adds up to another £649.95 and brings our total raised from September 2025 to £4,411.42p.

A big THANK YOU to Veronica Priestly and her helpers for putting together the Good as New stall. All the hard work you put into making this happen is very much appreciated. It was a lovely day weather wise and the whole event was such a pleasure to be a part of.

Would it surprise you to know that since we started fundraising for the Easter Centre in 2010 we have raised a grand total of £105,268.63p.

Coming Up

We have plenty of new stock covering a wide range of music tastes for you to peruse. We now include cassette tapes as well as dvds and have a few portable cd players and some other bits and pieces for sale. We are also offering some back issues of the NME [New Musical Express] for a small donation. We hope you can make it even if you don’t purchase anything.

Quiz Night + Child Action Lanka Christmas Stall

We are planning another brain friendly quiz night to be held in the Easter Centre on Friday November 13th. We have a lot of fun on these evenings as well as raise money for our cause. Admission is £5 per person with students getting in free. Extra donations always welcome. We open the doors at 7pm for the stall and start the quiz at 7.45pm. The stall again opens in the interval and at the end which is about 9.45pm. All admission money for the quiz will go to the Easter Centre and all income from the stalls will go to Child Action Lanka. Refreshments will be served but please feel free to bring your own. There is no need to book in advance and individuals will be placed into a team if they prefer. So – Why not get a team together and also get some Christmas presents.

Women Rising Against Poverty (WRAP) is a women empowerment and livelihood initiative of Child Action Lanka that creates opportunities for mothers to develop skills, earn an income and strengthen the wellbeing of their families. By transforming donated and used sarees and other fabrics into practical, reusable products, WRAP gives new purpose to materials while creating meaningful opportunities for women. Through this simple yet purposeful approach, the initiative brings together economic empowerment, family wellbeing and environmental sustainability.

Our Historic 48-Star American flag update

Many of you supported fundraising for the conservation of both our American flag and our Union flag from the summer of 2024 to the summer of 2025. As you know work on both were completed last Autumn. There is going to be a special showing of these on November 13th at our quiz night and then from 11am to 1pm on Saturday 14th in the Easter Centre.

All items can be dropped off on the preloved vinyl record sale days which are on 1st Saturday monthly. Please let me know if this is not convenient so that a suitable collection time can be found for you.

There are now 41 books left so potentially another £615 if all get sold. To date we have sold 329 and raised a total of £1,574.92p.
