Funerals

Funerals

If you are reading this because you have recently lost a loved one, please accept our sincere condolences. We hope the following information will be helpful to you.

Funerals are incredibly important; they allow us the opportunity to give thanks for the life of a loved one and to commit them to God’s care. They are also a time of bringing people together to share the loss and to comfort each other.

At St John’s Egham, we offer a funeral service which can be held in the crematorium chapel or at the graveside, but you can also have a service in the church before or after the cremation or burial.

The minister will work closely with you to make sure that the deceased is shown the greatest respect and dignity and that theirs and your family’s wishes are fulfilled as far as possible.

The service includes prayers and the Lord’s prayer, a Bible reading chosen by the family and a short address from the minister. The eulogy can be given by the family or friends or by the minister if preferred. Poems, hymns, music and other tributes can be included as desired, including showing photos on a screen in the church. The minister will support you throughout this process.

You do not have to be a member of this church in order to have a funeral at St John’s or for one of our ministers to take the service elsewhere.
