Planting Trees
You will be provided with a sapling to plant that could be one of the following cultivars. Unless you’re bringing your own tree to plant, please take the sapling that has been provided:
Silver Birch; Dogwood; Hawthorn; Rowan; Elder
Hazel; Wild Cherry; Crab Apple; Blackthorn; Dog Rose
You will need to bring:
- Your own tools – spade and fork
- 2 x bags of Mulch – to create a mulch volcano around your tree
- A large piece of cardboard to put on the ground round your tree to help retain moisture
- A litre of water to water your tree after planting
- Can optionally bring and plant flowers around your tree – nitrogen and phosphorus fixing flowers
You will need to:
- Find the zone and then numbered stick in the ground that has been assigned to you
- Remove the stick and plant your tree as indicated in this video
- Fill in the form to identify the location of your tree so that we can create a site map of its location, dedication and the species planted
- Return the numbered stick to operations so that it can be checked off by the volunteer supervisor
